Star Wars.....the obsession continues...

I have written about Star Wars in many places here on the blog. It was a major trans formative event in my life when my father took me to see the film in 1977. We stood in line (the first time I ever recall standing in line to see a movie, now a somewhat common place occurrence)and after the movie he took me to the local T-shirt shop and got me a "May The Force Be With You" T-shirt. I wore it until the heat transfered decal cracked and peeled into a pointillist representation of the film.
I am not a Star Wars collector I leave that to Tommy Mac.
I do however want my son to become a fan. With that in mind I have purchased him the Star Wars Lego games for Playstation( Happy 50thBirthday btw to Lego.) They have gone virtually ignored until 3 days ago. Suddenly he is obsessed and asking me how I know just what it is we are supposed to do in each scene. I have been explaining the context of these challenges to him and we have been enjoying it together. He even suggested that he might want to watch the films! My fingers are crossed. With that in mind I thought I'd do a little Star Wars in the blogosphere post as several recent articles delivered via GReader have focused on Star Wars and shown that I am not the only one who still loves anything to do with Star Wars!
First up....Star Wars/Disney Mash-ups at Deviant Art (thanks too BoingBoing!)
Over at deviantART.com user Thumper-001 has uploaded a series of Starwars/Disney Mash-up pics that are just awesome. I am also a Disney fan, and I DO collect disneyanna. These Are really cool, and even a little strange. Some are official and others...well...I doubt either Disney or Lucas put their stamp of approval here.

Next up ThinkGeek.com
offers the Japanese Star Wars Lightsaber Desk Lamp in all it's geeky glory.... Can I just say OMFG Yeah! Now a way to not only signal your love of all things SW but also to make your allegiance known. From the Think Geek site....
...we've devised a genius way to determine office force alliances for sure. Each employee places one of these nifty glowing Lightsaber Desk Lamps next to their red stapler... those paying allegiance to the powerful dark side can choose the red Vader lamp. While weaklings on their moral high-horses can sport the green Luke lamp. Of course they're always some employees who have to be obnoxious and swing both ways by placing one of each lightsaber lamp color on their desk.

This little stroke of brilliance is only $19.99 and is available at ThinkGeek.com

And finally...20th Century Studios has declared the Star Wars lightsaber the #1 film weapon of all time! I couldn't agree with the masses more! Here's the complete Top 10

Top 10 Favourite Movie Weapons

1. Lightsabre (Star Wars)

2. .44 Magnum (Dirty Harry)

3. Bullwhip (Indiana Jones)

4. Samurai sword (Kill Bill)

5. Chainsaw (Texas Chainsaw Massacre)

6. Golden Gun (James Bond - The Man With The Golden Gun)

7. Bow and arrow (Robin Hood)

8. Machine gun (Scarface)

9. The Death Star (Star Wars)

10. Bowler hat (James Bond - Goldfinger)

Now you'll have to excuse me I have to go help my son make his first run at destroying The Death Star...Lego Style!

May the Force be with you.

Boing Boing: Mayor of Boston bans Boing Boing

From our friends over at Boing Boing: Mayor of Boston bans Boing Boing (including the uber-sexy Xeni? We're outraged) have found themselves in the company of the Mooninites. The site is banned on the local free wi-fi network in Boston. I would say this virtually GUARANTEES that you are not surfing Yamagoo on SkyPilot network in Boston.. Apparently the Mayor of Boston has a beef with all things hip. BoingBoing is not an offensive site by any stretch and its restriction is the first step toward breaking the hearts of the Founding Fathers who came from Boston. Hey Mayor Menino way to disappoint your constituents and further your reputation as America's Putz. Do I smell an Asshole of the Week nominee?

From Xeni by way of Say Everything

At 26, Kitty is herself an old lady, in Internet terms. She left her teens several years before the revolution began in earnest: the forest of arms waving cell-phone cameras at concerts, the MySpace pages blinking pink neon revelations, Xanga and Sconex and YouTube and Lastnightsparty.com and Flickr and Facebook and del.icio.us and Wikipedia and especially, the ordinary, endless stream of daily documentation that is built into the life of anyone growing up today. You can see the evidence everywhere, from the rural 15-year-old who records videos for thousands of subscribers to the NYU students texting come-ons from beneath the bar. Even 9-year-olds have their own site, Club Penguin, to play games and plan parties. The change has rippled through pretty much every act of growing up. Go through your first big breakup and you may need to change your status on Facebook from "In a relationship" to "Single." Everyone will see it on your "feed," including your ex, and that's part of the point.' (read the rest here)

The article confirms something I have pondered for quite some time about the changes that we need to consider in our personal behaviors living in such an in your face, post it on my blog, cell phone pictures/ video, YouTube view whore, society.  There's none of the "thank God everyone else was a f**ked up as I was last night" to save you from embarrassment, prosecution or worse.

Different world.  We need to adjust to it cause this here Genie ain't goin back in the lamp.

Star Wars of the Roses - Xeni Love

So here it is 2007! We start off with some Xeni love from BoingBoing. Xeni if you weren't already the perfect woman, in so many ways, you sealed the deal with the latest post on the 501st Legion 's appearance escorting 2007 Rose Parade Grand Marshall George Lucas. I spent the better part of this morning searching, in vain for pics of the 501st, or the floats, or anything besides the regurgitated AP garbage and there wasn't alot. Then on a refresh of the GReader Voila, Xeni to the rescue. Read the post here. There's a ton of 501st video on YouTube and I've added some of the coolest to the Vlog.

Thursday

Kill the WABBIT, Kill the WABBIT!

Wednesday

"Dude be careful with that box!"

Whatever you do DON'T trip....Awwwww nuckin futs!

This commercials been around for quite sometime. It's for a SONY Bravia TV but it's just such a cool concept, and the visuals are so incredible that I had to post it as it came back into my world today (thanks BoingBoing)
Speaking of the Bravia, I am considering upgrading to an HDTV. Ever since my last few visits to DJGreggieC's and the discovery of Kung Fu Hustle in HD I just can't shake the urge. Plus I know my offspring will go ape shit over playing PS2 on a massive and frankly much brighter screen! So here's what I am getting at....

Do YOU have an HDTV? and if so.... What kind of HDTV do you have?

Romeo & Juliet with Fire!

Thanks to the folks at BoingBoing for pointing me toward this! Can you imagine being all baked up and sitting through something like this?

True Love in Real Flames

The Crucible celebrates its 8th Anniversary with a sizzling synthesis of dance and fire:

The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of
Romeo and Juliet — A Fire Ballet

In the dazzling tradition of The Crucible's Fire Operas, this first-ever Fire Ballet is a theatrical spectacle that fuses ballet, classical music, aerial performance, and the fire and industrial arts into a compelling modernized rendition of Shakespeare's tragic tale. Choreographer Corinne Blum, formerly of the San Francisco Ballet, has been recognized as one of the West Coast’s most exciting, young choreographers. Dazzling fight scenes—expect real fire when tempers flare!

Classically trained ballet dancers share the stage with fire performers, while the aerial dancers of Flyaway Productions soar in the industrial vastness of The Crucible’s 56,000 square foot studio. Capulets and Montagues stage their brawls with urban dance and Capoeira in explosive fight scenes against a backdrop of flaming sculptures. Performers include an amazing cast of dancers and performers that reflects the diversity of the Bay Area’s arts community, from classically trained ballet dancers to outrageous fire performers, including Flyaway Productions, Flavor Group, Wushu West, and The Crucible’s blacksmiths, metal casters, and glassworkers. The legendary tale of star-crossed lovers is set to the passionate and powerful score of Sergei Prokofiev.

USA's biggest cash crop is now pot.

From BoingBoing the home of all things...well...oh fuck..... it they write cool shit no one else will and bring our attention to shit no one else saw-PS Xeni's hot!!!!

According to the analyst Jon Gettman, whose job it is to keep up with what us subversive counter cultural degenerate pot smokers are doing, marijuana is now America's biggest cash crop.
[The report] contends that the market value of pot produced in the U.S. exceeds $35 billion — far more than the crop value of such heartland staples as corn, soybeans and hay, which are the top three legal cash crops.

California is responsible for more than a third of the cannabis harvest, with an estimated production of $13.8 billion that exceeds the value of the state's grapes, vegetables and hay combined — and marijuana is the top cash crop in a dozen states, the report states. (...) Nationwide, the estimated cannabis production of $35.8 billion exceeds corn ($23 billion), soybeans ($17.6 billion) and hay ($12.2 billion), according to Gettman's findings.

This shit is bananas B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Just in case your thinking "yeah right...fruit cake press says marijuanna is the biggest cash crop grown here in the good old USA this is the LA Times article where you'll find it all laid out. Paid for by tax dollars this study was. Hmmmmm at an average sales tax of oh say 8% our antiquated and draconian anti-marijuanna laws are costing YOU the taxpayer over 3 BILLION DOLLARS a year! Yeah that says Billion.
Imagine how much could be grown and sold if we legalized its sale and distribution.
Deficit? What Deficit? Yamagoo...Fire up! C'mon DC blaze a phatty for the sake of the national debt!

Make your own Action Figure

From BoingBoing...

Vicale offers a DIY action-figure toolkit: use a Flash-based configurator to spec out your fig's head, clothes, armaments and accessories and they'll build and ship it to you. I'd like it better if there was more customization -- especially in body type, etc -- but this is getting one step closer to my boyhood dream of being able to create a line of my own action figs.
